Are you required to report on Fringe Benefit Tax?

Leading up towards the busy end of the Financial Year, employers are required to report on and submit their Fringe Benefit Tax (FBT) liabilities. The FBT year runs from the 1st of April until the 31st of March.

If your business is not currently registered for FBT you must first complete an application form and submit it to the ATO.

What is FBT?
FBT is a tax paid against (mostly) non-monetary benefits that you can choose to provide to your employees.
Examples of this are;
- providing an employee with a company car for private use
- giving your employee a cheap loan
- access to a corporate box

If benefits that are subject to FBT were not utilised throughout the FBT year, you are not required to submit a return as the FBT balance would be nil.

However, the ATO does require that you submit a notice of non-lodgement form if you will not be submitting a return.

We will be updating with more tips and reminders leading up to the End of the Financial Year, including dates for our EOFY Paypac Software Courses.

Should you require additional information or assistance during this busy period, please do not hesitate to contact us on 08 9481 0481 or 1800 729 722.

Daylight Savings in the Eastern States is coming to an end on Sunday April the 3rd at 2am. This means that the time difference between WA and the Eastern States lessens from being three hours to two hours and this allows an extra hour for banking.

We advise Outsourcing Clients that the PAYPAC OUTSOURCING banking deadline is now extended from 1pm to 2pm WST.

However we do appreciate your prompt assistance to ensure we are always able to meet our banking deadline with time to spare wherever possible.

Food Drive Success in 2010

Paypac is proud to have assisted our long-standing client, Foodbank WA, with our annual Christmas Food Drive in 2010. We were astounded to find that by the end of our pick-up day, we’d absolutely filled our training room with many boxes full of food items (including Christmas puddings, right in time for Christmas!) to help less-fortunate West Australian families through the festive season, giving them more reasons to smile.

We’d like to acknowledge the following Clients for the donations, contributions and support of their staff members throughout our 2010 Food Drive efforts.
Dr Melanie McAlpine

We truly look forward to our 2011 Food Drive and trust it will be at least as successful as our 2010 efforts!

Australia's Paid Parental Leave Scheme

The Australian Government has introduced a Paid Parental Leave (PPL) proposal for new parents with a child or children born after the 1st of January 2011. Whilst this benefit will not be available to all primary carers, it is available to primary carers who;
  • have been in paid work continuously for at least 10 of the 13 months prior to the expected birth or adoption of the child; and
  • have undertaken at least 330 hours of paid work in the 10 month period (this is equivalent to approximately one full working day per week)
Based upon the primary carer’s adjusted taxable income for the previous financial year, Parental Leave Payments will be means tested on an income of $150,000. Payments are then allocated on a case-by-case basis up to a maximum of $543.78 per week – the current Federal Minimum Wage for adults.

Payments are then provided on a weekly basis from the Government direct. Future plans suggest that payments may also be available via the employer; the Government will allocate the employer their lump sum for the particular employee to be paid on a weekly basis.

Primary carer’s hoping to benefit from the PPL scheme should apply directly to the Family Assistance Office, and also speak with their employer to determine the most suitable way for payments to commence.

Information for employers and their obligations can be found here.

New primary carer’s may wish to consider whether to apply for Paid Parental Leave or the Baby Bonus. This Estimator Tool may assist you to make that decision. We recommend you review this link to obtain all the information you require prior to utilising the Estimator Tool.
